Revision as of 10:21, 15 January 2013

The Edit Menu provides access to the following EMarketOffer features:

  • Opening a Secondary Window
  • Editing Watch Lists
  • Report and Graph Generation
  • Opening Supply Curve and Offer Graphs
  • Editing Regions
  • Editing Company Details
  • Editing Excluded Item lists

The Open New Window Option

Purpose

Opens a separate Secondary Window of the same type (Map or Information Grid) as that currently displayed in the Main Window Display Panel.

The Watch Lists Option

Watch Lists support the function of Watch Windows which allow you to keep information of interest visible on-screen as you move through different features of the Presentation Interface. A Watch Window contains text tables of information about Modelled Items that automatically update as you change the Current Data Set.

A Watch List is a 'template' specifying the elements included in any Watch Window based with the List. The Edit Watch Lists function allows you to maintain your own set of Watch Lists for items that you want to monitor routinely.

Watch Window

A Watch Window contains a subset of all instances of a specific Modelled Item. A window can display instances for only one modelled item. Hence it is possible to talk of a Circuits Watch Window, or a Nodes Watch Window. Watch Window contents are automatically updated when the Current Data Set is changed. Several Watch Windows can be opened simultaneously to display instances from either the same or different modelled items.

A Watch Window can be opened for any one of the following modelled Items:

  • Nodes
  • Substations
  • Regions
  • Units
  • Generators
  • Circuits
  • Equations

Watch List

A Watch List is a previously prepared list of instances that you will often want to see together in a Watch Window. Watch Windows based on a Watch List can be opened from the Watch List Window. Watch Lists are also accessible in drop down lists in any open Watch Window. Watch Lists are persistent between EMarketOffer sessions for each Client workstation installation.

NOTE: Because EMarketOffer allows you to create your own instances of Modelled Items (e.g. new Nodes and Circuits) the set of all instances for a Modelled Item is unbounded. It is therefore possible to create a Watch List containing Item instances that are not common to all Data Sources. Watch Lists can be applied to any Data Source, however EMarketOffer simply ignores those instances in a Watch List for which the Current Data Set has no information. For example a Watch List created with a user-defined injection Node for use in some Forecast Definitions will ignore the Node (i.e. will it not appear) in a Watch Window based on this List when it is applied to historical (Market) data.

A Watch Window displays important attributes for a list of specific instances of a Modelled Item. The instances in a list are a subset of all instances of that Modelled Item. Only instances of one Modelled Item can be displayed in any one Watch Window.

The following list defines the items for which you can open Watch Windows:

  • Node
  • Substation
  • Region
  • Unit
  • Generator
  • Circuit
  • Equation Constraints
  • Reserve Region
  • Company

The Watch Window

Access

Using the Open Watch List Button on the Watch List Window or when an Item is added to the default Watch List invoked through the right-click menu on the Map.

Purpose

To show the Current Data Set values for a specific Modelled Item.

Features

Feature Purpose
Title Bar
Displays information about the Watch Window
Save to File Button
Allows you to save a copy of the Watched Instances Grid as a csv formatted file
Watch List Selector
Provides a drop down selection of all Watch Lists for the appropriate Modelled Item (e.g. Nodes). Selecting a Watch List replaces the instances displayed in the current Watched Instances Grid with those from the Watch List.
Edit Watch Lists Button
Opens the Watch Lists Window where you can edit exiting and create new Watch Lists.
Keep In Front Check Box
Checking this box keeps the Watch List displayed in front of the Main Window
Watched Instances Grid
Displays period-specific data for the selected instances of the Watched Item. Data in the Grid can be sorted alphanumerically by any column and data can be cut and pasted to and from the Windows clipboard. The section on Watch Window Items details which data is displayed for each Watched Item.

The Watch List Window

Access

Either through the Watch list Option under the Edit menu of the Main Window, or by clicking the Edit Watch Lists Button on a Watch Window.

Purpose

To maintain a useful stock of Watch Lists.

Features

Feature Purpose
Item Type Selector
Selects a Modeled Item for the Watch Window from a drop down list
Watch List Selector
Selects a Watch List from those already created for the selected Modelled Item. Selecting a Watch List displays the named instances in the Watched Instances Grid.
New Watch List Button
Creates a new Watch List
Delete Watch List Button
Deletes the currently displayed Watch List and all its watched instances.
Rename Watch List
Opens a Dialogue box allowing you to enter a new name for the currently selected Watch List
Open Watch List Button
Opens a Watch Window based on the selected Watch List and displays Watched Instance data from the Current Data Set.
Watched Instances Grid
Displays the instances associated with the selected Watch List, new instances can be added to the grid either by selecting from the instances in the Current Data Set or by typing the name of the instance.

>> To create a new Watch List for the selected Modelled Item:

  1. Click the New Button to open the Create Watch List Dialogue Box.
  2. Enter a name for your new Watch List and click OK
  3. Use the blank Watched Instances Grid to add instances to the List

>> To add new instances to the List:

  1. Click the arrow head in the empty row at the foot of the grid and select the instance from the drop down list; or
  2. Click on the empty row at the foot of the grid and start typing the name of the instance you want if the instance is in the current data sources the auto-fill feature will attempt to complete the name for you

NOTE: Using <BACKSPACE> during text entry will turn off the auto-fill function. This allows you to create Watch Lists with instances that may not appear in the current data source

>> To delete an instance from the Grid:

  1. Click on the instance name in the Watched Instances Grid (grid will have a pale grey outline)
  2. Press the <DELETE> key

The Reports and Graphs Option

EMarketOffer's reporting and charting is designed for practicality to allow easy export of results to other applications for post-processing.

Reporting and Graphing Concepts

The reporting function allows you to output dynamic data from the Current Data Source to:

  • A csv formatted text file
  • A Chart

The content of any one Report Output will be a single trait for multiple instances of a single Modelled Item e.g:

  • Attribute = Load
  • Modelled Item = Node
  • Instances = ADD011 and KEN0331

Reports can be collected together into batches which can be saved for later use with the same or a different data source.

The Reports Window

Access

The Reports and Graphs option in the Main Window Edit Menu.

Purpose

To specify single and batched Reports, in Chart or .csv file format.

NOTE: The Batch-related panels can be made smaller or larger by clicking and dragging on the Movable Divider at the head of the Batch Control Panel (placing your mouse over the divider will change the cursor to a horizontal bar crossed with a double-headed arrow). This allows you control the size of the display of Batch and Batch Components lists.
