The Edit Menu provides access to the following EMarketOffer features:

  • Creating and managing Watch Lists
  • Creating and managing Regions
  • Creating and managing Company details
  • Entering Excluded Generators and Excluded Equations that you want EMO to ignore for certain purposes

The Watch Lists Option

Watch Lists support the function of Watch Windows which allow you to keep information of interest visible on-screen as you move through different features of the Presentation Interface. A Watch Window contains text tables of information about Modelled Items that automatically update as you change the Current Data Set.

A Watch List is a 'template' specifying the elements included in any Watch Window based with the List. The Edit Watch Lists function allows you to maintain your own set of Watch Lists for items that you want to monitor routinely.

Watch Window

A Watch Window contains a subset of all instances of a specific Modelled Item. A window can display instances for only one modelled item. Hence it is possible to talk of a Circuits Watch Window, or a Nodes Watch Window. Watch Window contents are automatically updated when the Current Data Set is changed. Several Watch Windows can be opened simultaneously to display instances from either the same or different modelled items.

A Watch Window can be opened for any one of the following modelled Items:

  • Nodes
  • Substations
  • Regions
  • Units
  • Generators
  • Circuits
  • Equations

Watch List

A Watch List is a previously prepared list of instances that you will often want to see together in a Watch Window. Watch Windows based on a Watch List can be opened from the Watch List Window. Watch Lists are also accessible in drop down lists in any open Watch Window. Watch Lists are persistent between EMarketOffer sessions for each Client workstation installation.

NOTE: Because EMarketOffer allows you to create your own instances of Modelled Items (e.g. new Nodes and Circuits) the set of all instances for a Modelled Item is unbounded. It is therefore possible to create a Watch List containing Item instances that are not common to all Data Sources. Watch Lists can be applied to any Data Source, however EMarketOffer simply ignores those instances in a Watch List for which the Current Data Set has no information. For example a Watch List created with a user-defined injection Node for use in some Forecast Definitions will ignore the Node (i.e. will it not appear) in a Watch Window based on this List when it is applied to historical (Market) data.

A Watch Window displays important attributes for a list of specific instances of a Modelled Item. The instances in a list are a subset of all instances of that Modelled Item. Only instances of one Modelled Item can be displayed in any one Watch Window.

The following list defines the items for which you can open Watch Windows:

  • Node
  • Substation
  • Region
  • Unit
  • Generator
  • Circuit
  • Equation Constraints
  • Reserve Region
  • Company

The Edit Regions Option

Access

Selecting the Regions option from the Main Window Edit Menu opens the Regions Window.

Definition

A Region is a defined set of Substations used to organise Report output.

How EMarketOffer Uses Regions

  • No Substation can appear twice in one Region
  • A Substation can appear in more than one Region
  • A Substation does not need to appear in any Region
  • Within a Region user-created Substations are treated in the same way as Substations derived from Market data
  • Substations in a Region do not need to be Geographically co-located
  • When using a Region to report against a specific Data Source, Substations appearing in the Region but not in the Data Source are ignored

The Regions Window

Access

The Regions option under the Edit menu of the Main Window.

Purpose

To manage the Region Modeled Item to allow:

  • Grouping of a useful set of related Substations
  • Summary data reporting by Region (e.g. average regional Price, Demand and Generation)
  • Regional reporting in Watch Windows

NOTE: EMarketOffer supports only one global set of Regions which is applied to all Data Sets and Data Sources.

Features

  • Region List which displays defined Regions
  • Assigned Substation List which displays the Substation assignations for all Regions

Usage

The window opens in summary (All) mode. This is a special mode which displays all Substations assigned to any Region.

>> To create a new Region:

  1. Click on the empty row at the foot of the Region List (this automatically switches the Region Window to Edit Mode)

Please check your Company allocations carefully if you want Company reporting to accurately capture all Market costs and revenues.

The Excluded Items Option

Access

The Excluded Items option in the Main Window Edit Menu.

Definition

An Excluded Item is a Generator or an Equation Constraint that is not included in EMarketOffer's analysis of Market, Powerflow or Forecast data.

Purpose

To allow the exclusion of:

  1. Offers of embedded generators
  2. Equation Constraints affecting the HVDC link from your modelling and analysis.

NOTE: When loading Offers and Equation Constraints data into a Forecast Definition, information about excluded items will be loaded into the Definition but flagged as inactive (i.e. they will not play a role in the dispatch calculations). It is possible to activate these Excluded Items by using the editing features in the Forecast Definition Window.

Features

Feature Purpose
Embedded Generators Grid
Provides a drop down list for adding Generators to the excluded list. Offers for listed Generators will be loaded from file or database as inactive and will not be included in dispatch calculations. Generators can be added simply by typing in the empty cell at the bottom of the grid and removing by highlighting and pressing <Delete>.
Excluded Equations Grid
Provides a drop down list for adding Group Constraints to the excluded list. Listed Group Constraints will be loaded from file or database as inactive and will not be included in dispatch calculations. This list can be edited as for Embedded Generators above.

TIP: The four Group Constraints; DCSA_BenP1Aout, DCSA_BenP1Bout, DCSA_HayP1Aouta and DCSA_HayP1Bout appeared commonly in TPIX data and are used by Transpower to control flows through the HVDC link. These Constraints are modelled internally in EMarketOffer and using them in dispatch causes them to be 'counted twice' leading to frequent infeasibilities. It is recommended that you add these to your excluded items list.
