  • General Purpose Charts

The Supply Curve Graph

Access

The Supply Curve option is under the Supply and Demand item on the Data Menu of the Main Window and is available for all Data Source types.

Purpose

The Supply Curve Graph displays the Offer Stack for the Current Data Set (excluding the Powerflow Case Data Source). The Graph appears in its own window and is updated whenever the Current Data Set changes.

A line joining the price points in the Supply stack
Supply Roll Over
A mouse-activated feature that shows details about the Unit offering capacity at that (vertical) point on the Supply Curve.

NOTE: It should NOT be assumed that a Unit belongs to a marginal Generation Station if an offer band is not fully dispatched

Dispatched Shading
Provides a vertical shaded band at right angles to the Supply Curve at every point along where quantity offered was actually dispatched. This means that:
  • Generation that was expected to be dispatched based on price but was not, shows as vertical white bands to the left of the Demand Line
  • Generation that was not expected to be dispatched on price but was, shows as vertical green bands to the right of the Demand Line
Options Link
Open the Supply Curve Options Window to customise the appearance of the Supply Curve Graph

NOTE: The Supply Curve Graph Window is sizeable. The chart area expands and compresses to fill the available space.

Offers Graph Concepts

Display Modes

The Chart Area has two modes of display:

  1. Offers by Price: which segments the entire Offer stack into user-defined Price bands by Trading Period
  2. Offers by Generation Station: which segments the entire Offer stack by individual Generation Unit by Trading Period

Display Elements

The following elements appear in the Chart Area display:

Element Purpose
Quantity Axis
Measures total offered quantity in MW
Time Axis
Demarcates the Chart date range using Date and Period markers
Graph Area
A continuous area of single colour on the Chart indicating either:
  • a band of offered quantity falling within a user-defined price range (Offers by Price); or
  • a band of quantity offered by a single Generation Unit (Offers by Generator)
Guideline
A line of user-defined colour joining the points across all displayed periods above which Offer Price exceeds the Price associated with the line
Load Line
A dark grey line joining the points of system Demand across all displayed Periods
Load Region
Area under the Load Line (can be shaded with semi-transparent pale grey)
Chart Rollover
A mouse-activated feature causing a roll-over panel to appear containing information associated with the underlying graph point
Legend
Displays the colours used in the chart

The Offers Graph allows you to customise the following display items:

Item Editor
Price Band Value and Colour
Change Graph Colour Window through the Price Colouring option from the Colouring Menu
Displayed Generation Stations
Change Graph Colour Window though the Generation Colouring option from the Colouring Menu
Guideline value and colour
Change Graph Colour Window though the Guideline Colouring option from the Colouring Menu
Load Line, Load Zone and Guideline visibility
Options Menu
Displayed Company and its colour
The Company Colouring Window though the Company Colouring option from the Colouring Menu

The Change Graph Colour Window

Access

The Colouring Option on the Offers Graph Window.

Purpose

Sets the colour options for:

  • Offers between user-defined Price Bands
  • Generation Station Offers
  • Generation Offered Quantity Guidelines

The Change Graph Colour Window can be opened for three different colouring options:

  • Price Colouring
  • Generation Colouring
  • Guide Line Colouring

Elements

Element Purpose
Value Column
Allows you to enter:
  • Numeric values for Price bands and Guidelines
  • Generation Station names
Colour Column
Shows the currently selected colour for the associated value. Rolling over a colour field with the mouse causes a grey box to appear on the right hand side of the field - clicking this box opens the standard Windows Colour Picking Window.

Usage

>> To make a colour selection:

  1. Click in a Colour Selection Field causing the Colour Picker Button to appear in the right side of the field
  2. Click the Colour Picker Button to open the standard Windows Colour Picker
  3. Use the Picker to select a colour and click OK

The Company Colouring Window

Access

The Colouring Option on the Offers Graph Window.

Purpose

Collects all offered quantity from all Generation Stations owned by a singe company and display it in the Offers Graph under a single colour (Graph by Generation Option only).

Elements

Element Purpose
Name Field
A drop down box to select a specific Company to colour in the Graph
Colour Picker
Shows the current colour selected for the Company. Clicking on the adjacent grey box causes the Standard Windows Colour Picking Window to open so you can select another colour
OK Button
Closes the Window and implements your Company selection
Cancel Button
Closes the window and discards your Company selection

Usage

When using the Colour Company option the following points should be noted:

  1. All generation offered by Stations owned by the Company will appear in the same colour
  2. You can only select one Company at a time. This is because Companies are defined globally and it is possible to define multiple companies such that any one Station may be owned by more than one Company (preventing all companies appearing on the same graph together)
  3. Currently selected Stations not owned by the Company will also appear in the chart (so it is important to ensure you choose a colour for a Company that is not used by any other Company's stations)
  4. The Company Colour change is permanent; any previous colour association for a Station is lost. In other words: in order to see offered generation for a specific Station distinct from any of the Company's other Stations (after you have coloured Stations by Company) you will need to change the colour of that Station using the Generation Colouring option.

Access

The Reports and Graphs option in the Data Menu

Purpose

To Chart a single trait from multiple instances of a single Modelled Item.

NOTE: It is NOT possible to mix attributes (e.g. Load and Price for a Node) in one chart, or to mix Modeled Items (e.g. Generation for a Unit and a Node).
